This course will consist mainly of practical work on Yoga Asanas with Breathing techniques integrated, each session will include a Relaxation and depending on the theme a Concentration technique. This course will explore Static Asana and Yoga Sequences including Surya Namaskara. Different Yoga Philosophical concepts will be introduced.

Asanas / Yoga Postures :- Sukhasana, Easy Pose, Baddhakonasana, Bound Angle, ,Marjariasana, Cat, Dandasana, Staff, Apanasana, Head to Knee, Paschimottanasana, Seated Forward Bend, Janusirsasana, Head to Knee, Kurmasana, Tortoise, Uttanasana, Intense Stretch, Prasarita Padottanasana, Wide legged forward bend, Parsvottanasana, Flank Stretch, Natarajasana, Dancer, Vrksasana, Tree, Garudasana, Eagle, Dwi Pada Pitham, Bridge, Bhujangasana, Cobra, Salabhasana, Locust, Dhanurasana, Bow, Jathara Parivrttiasana, Lying Twist, Ardha Matsyendrasana, Seated Spinal Twist, Adho Mukha Svanasana, Downward Dog, Tadasana, Mountain, Virabhadrasana 1, 11, 111, Warriors, Gomukhasana, Cows Head Sarvangasana, Shoulder Stand, Savasana, Relaxation Pose, Sequences including Surya Namaskara, Salutation to the Sun Breathing Techniques / Pranayama, 3 Part Breath, Full Yogic Breath, Ratio Breathing, Ujjayi, Alternate Nostril Breathing, Brahmari. Different Relaxation and Concentration techniques will be employed to reduce stress levels With some presentation of Yoga philosophical concepts which support the practices.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Perform various Yoga Postures in each session to maintain and develop overall flexibility employing the Yogic concept of Ahimsa, non-harm. 2. Use techniques to improve control of their respiratory systems within the class environment and for home practice. 3. Identify then reduce tension throughout their whole body to increase a sense of general well being. 4. Evaluate the effects of concentration/meditation techniques experienced and consider the relevance of a focused mind. 5. Recall aspects of Yoga philosophy included in the course, which supports the physical practice

How will I know I'm making progress?

Continuous Visual Assessment by the Tutor to ensure Safe Yoga Practice Question & Answer plus Discussion with Tutor to ensure correct understanding

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Please bring a Yoga Mat & Wear Loose Comfortable Clothing, Blocks will be provided

Reading and information sources

Any Yoga book will be helpful but not necessary

What could the course lead to?

Development of Home Practice will be encouraged, Hand-outs will be supplied Details about attendance of Yoga events and courses will be discussed
