Yoga and relaxation - 2

Ref: C2337519

We will work with a range of asanas (yoga postures), pranayama (breathing techniques) , meditation techniques and yoga nidra (guided relaxation). Each session is adapted to the needs of the individual. A holistic approach to yoga is taken.

Course aim

The course will look at yoga in greater depth, we will stretch, strengthen and relax the whole body -the breath being integral to the sessions.

Who is the course for?

Those with some experience.

What topics will this course cover

We will work with asanas sitting, lying, standing and inverted; this will include the same 7-Way Stretch and also Salute to the Sun on a weekly basis. We will work with asanas that both relax and challenge the individual, however, everyone works at their own level. One of the beauties of yoga is that it is noncompetitive, we are not even competing with ourselves. We go as far as is comfortable. Each session will finish with pranayama, meditation and yoga nidra.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Practice both the 7-Way Stretch and Salute to the Sun at home and in class with confidence. 2. Practice asanas at home with confidence. 3. Practice the breathing techniques in class and bring them into use when needed i.e. to relax, to alleviate stress and tension. 4. Practice the meditation techniques in class and at home with confidence. 5. Practice the relaxation techniques in class and put into practice outside of the class to help contribute to overall health and well-being.

How will I know I'm making progress?

The tutor speaks to students regularly and is able to assess and give feedback.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Mat and block, the latter can be purchased from the tutor.
