Yoga and relaxation - 1

This is a practical course and will cover a wide range of yoga postures. Each session will include meditation, breathing exercises and a guided relaxation. The yoga will be adapted to the needs of the individual.

Course aim

To stretch, strengthen, relax and tone the whole body, the role of the breath and relaxation will be integral to the course.

Who is the course for?

What topics will this course cover

The course will cover wide range of yoga postures: -backward bends -forward bends -twists: lying, sitting, standing -inverted postures -7-Way Stretch -Salute to the Sun -Meditation -Breathing exercises -Guided relaxation

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Practice the yoga postures with confidence. 2. Practice the 7-Way Stretch and Salute to the Sun with confidence, relevant handouts will be given out. 3. Practice the breathing exercises and pus them into practice at home. 4. Practice meditation both in class and at home and be aware of how they contribute to a sense of well-being. 5. Practice relaxation both at class and at home and be aware of how they contribute to a sense of well-being.

How will I know I'm making progress?

The tutor makes a point of talking to students regularly and giving feedback.
