This term we will trying out a wide range of mediums to create exciting backgrounds and decorative elements for your cards, including Brusho crystals, pastels, mica powders and alcohol inks. as well as making the unusual 'double z fold' card.

Course aim

Enjoy a relaxing and creative experience in a friendly and supportive group environment, Learn new skills that will build confidence in the use of tools and materials and designing a variety of projects to be shared with family and friends.

Who is the course for?

What topics will this course cover

The contents of the course will help students improve basic skills such as measuring and cutting accurately as well as issues such as hand-eye co-ordination, an understanding of simple design and layout, colour theory and to use the Internet as a research tool. It encourages students to develop their creativity and helps their mental well being. Specific techniques will include creating different backgrounds and special effects using a variety of mediums students may not have tried before.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Create a faux woodgrain background 2. Use Brusho crystals for backgrounds, with stencils and stamps 3. Use pastels and mica powders with stamped images 4. Create colourful backgrounds using gloss card and alcohol inks 5. Construct and decorate a 'double z fold' card

How will I know I'm making progress?

Individual Learning Plan. Regular 1:1 assessment by tutor. Successful completion of practical tasks. Group and peer review of work achieved at end of each session.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Some basic tools and materials will be available to borrow. There will be a list provided of some useful items to bring if you have them.
