Three Sculptors at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park
This course consists of three indoor sessions and a day trip to the YSP. The three British sculptors will be Moore, Hepworth and Shonibare but the course will also include artists such as Goldsworthy, Paolozzi and Emin and preview the 2017 Tony Cragg exhibition at YSP.
To provide information and enable discussion about sculpture and sculptors in order to prepare for and enhance the visit to Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

No knowledge or experience needed. All welcome.
What topics will this course cover
Classical origins of sculpture.Techniques and materials. Work by Moore, Hepworth and Shonibare and also mention of Emin, Paolozzi and Frink. A look at the new YSP exhibition by Tony Cragg. Issues arising from the works.
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
Identify work by the featured artists in the Park Compare works by different artists with reference to materials and techniques Have an informed discussion about the ideas behind the featured sculptors works.
How will I know I'm making progress?
The tutor will monitor and encourage student training and progress throughout the course through contribution to small group and class discussion and completion of individual and group tasks. The student may ask for verbal progress reports at any time. Formal written feedback comes with the self assessment and tutor assessment at the end of the course.
What else do I need to know, do or bring?
No special knowledge or experience is required. Sensible clothing and shoes are recommended for walking in the Park. A waterproof may also be useful.
Reading and information sources
No special preparation is needed for the course, just an interest in the subject.
What could the course lead to?
The course will hopefully encourage students to visit and appreciate other sculptures in Britain and abroad.
