Tai Chi and Health Qigong for health and relaxation
This beneficial way to exercise, combines body movement and mental stimulation. It also helps posture and co-ordination. The gentle slow movements energise the body without undue strain on joints and muscles. Through practising regularly, the student will achieve the means to relieve stress and tension, and introduce a sense of wellbeing.
To maintain fitness, aid relaxation and improve techniques and performance of Tai Chi and Health Qigong forms. Through regular practice progressing towards achieving better health.
Who is the course for?
Suitable for anyone who has recent 24+ months of experience of the Yang 24 form.
What topics will this course cover
Safe warm up and a meditative cool down. Tai Chi principles. All sections of the Tai Chi 24 form. The following Health Qigong sets will be covered, Eight treasures, Ba Duan Jin, Yi Jin Jing, Daoyin 12, WUu Qin Xi (5 animals). A continuation of Tai Ji Shen Zhang (Tiaji Stick) and an introduction to Da Wu, Health Qigong (the big dance). Relaxation principles.
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
1. explain some of the principles of Yang style Tai Chi. 2. develop a grasp of timing, posture, and transitions. 3. demonstrate body weight transfer and body shapes in both the Tai Chi forms and the Health Qigong sets. 4. perform Health Qigong sets with an understanding of the health benefits and the background of the forms. 5 demonstrate correct use of breath
How will I know I'm making progress?
Tutor observation/feedback forms, learner feedback. Individual learning plan at the start and the end of the course. Health questionnaires. The tutor will be available before and after the class to discuss any concerns in private. Occasional use of video.
What else do I need to know, do or bring?
Loose comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement. Flat soft comfortable shoes. You may wish to bring a drink.
Reading and information sources
There is a selection of books available on sites such as Amazon, relating to Tai Chi principles. You tube Health Qigong routines can be viewed, preferably of the Chinese or the British Health Qigong Association. These can also be viewed on the BHQA Website. Videos of the Tai Chi Yang 24 can also be viewed on the Deyin Institute Website. Instructional DVDs of the Health Qigong sets will be available to be purchase through the tutor as are music CDs.
What could the course lead to?
Continued practice helps to maintain levels of fitness, balance and co-ordination, to improve health.
