Italian for beginners

This is a group based weekly class with a relaxed atmosphere. You will have a variety of learning activities that will build your skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Also you will explore Italian culture and customs and you will meet new people.

Course aim

A course for complete beginners. You will learn the key phrases to "get by" when greeting people, shopping and eating out in Italy.

Who is the course for?

This course is for complete beginners which assumes no previuos knowledge.

What topics will this course cover

This course will include: - greetings and introductions - ordering a meal - shopping for basics - finding your way (directions)

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

- to communicate at a basic level in Italian - demonstrate a sound grasp of basic vocabulary to enable further studies - explain some culture and traditions of Italy

How will I know I'm making progress?

Your tutor will assess you informally in class and give you verbal and written feedback.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Lined paper, a pen. If you have an A4 sized ring binder, this will be useful too.

Reading and information sources

No but the tutor will suggest texts and websites that will be helpful in supporting your learning

What could the course lead to?

You could progress to a follow on course with the WEA or another provider
