Move with freedom, breathe with ease: finding balance through yoga

We will continue to explore Yoga practices that encourage us to move in a safe and harmonious way, with emphasis on how our breath aids our movements and aids us in everyday situations. We will also include meditation and relaxation practices; both important for our overall well-being.

Course aim

The course will focus on learning about our body's ability to adapt and to work within our own capabilities. We will also work on breathing, meditation and relaxation practices leading on to developing a home practice for over the summer period.

Who is the course for?

What topics will this course cover

We will examine specific yoga postures to develop strength and flexibility, as well as how to incorporate the breath into these movements. We will also learn how to meditate and relax.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. move safely to their own ability 2. practice at home 3. describe having greater breath awareness 4. explain basic meditation techniques 5. demonstrate an ability to use relaxation techniques

How will I know I'm making progress?

Continual verbal assessment, through questions and answers, hands-on adjustments if given permission to do so.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Yoga Mat, Blanket, wear loose comfy and warm clothes.

None required. The tutor will suggest relevant texts and websites during the course

Further Yoga Studies with the WEA or other providers, locally and nationally
