This course will build upon the basic knitting and crochet skills and use those to go forward and create more patterns and textures. It will also enable students to learn more complex stitches in both crafts.

Course aim

To learn how to use the basic stitches in knitting and crochet to create different patterns and apply these in a selection of projects.

What topics will this course cover

The course will cover using the basic stitches in knitting and crochet to create more complex patterns. It will also cover pattern reading to help students to understand this along with reading charts. The course will also enable students to work together with others with a similar interest to increase their confidence, not only in the crafts but also in meeting and working alongside others.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Use basic knitting stitches to create texture and pattern. 2. Use the basic crochet stitches in different ways to crochet pattern 3. Learn how to read patterns and charts 4. Learn how to crochet more complicated stitches including shells, popcorns, clusters 5. Learn how to knit more advances stitches including lacy patterns and cables

How will I know I'm making progress?

Verbal feedback with regularly be given throughout the course by the tutor. Students will be encouraged to work together sharing their skills and work made thus giving peer feedback. Written feedback will be given during the course in addition to at the end of the course highlighting progress made plus future areas to work on.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

Knitting needles and crochet hook plus small amounts of double knitting yarn to use on the mini projects each week
