This six-week course will help you explore your creativity and imagination through a series of fun writing exercises in groups or writing independently. It will also give you the opportunity to discuss the pleasure of reading and of sharing stories with others.

Course aim

This course offers a safe, friendly space to anyone keen to explore their creativity through writing.

Who is the course for?

It is for everyone keen to explore their creativity through writing. No previous experience is required.

What topics will this course cover

Each class will start with an introduction to a novel, with an extract being read by the teacher and used as a tool for you to start using your imagination. After that, you will take part in a series of fun, short exercises (3-5mins), short enough to silence the inner critical voice and spur you on. There will be group exercises as well.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

- feel inspired to read more fiction. - feel confident in using your own words and ideas. - feel inspired to explore your creativity further.

How will I know I'm making progress?

What else do I need to know, do or bring?
