On National Poetry Day we will read aloud and discuss poems written by Irish writers in the 21st century, It is eight years since the death of Seamus Heaney and we will consider some of his late poems as well as exploring his legacy. The course will also feature poems by Stephen Sexton, Sinead Morrissey and Eavan Boland. The focus will be on students' personal responses based on close reading of the poems. We will discuss the themes the poets address and their choice of form.
