In this course you will learn about child development, safeguarding, communication and understanding the school context. You will need to build a portfolio of evidence as part of this course.

Course aim
The aim of this course is to develop an understanding of what is involved in working in a school setting with children and young people.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Describe typical development patterns and how to recognise and react to potential development concerns
- Understand the legislation, policies and procedures in place to safeguard the welfare of children and young people and describe the actions to take if a child or young person discloses harm or abuse
- Explain how to develop effective professional relationships with children, young people and adults
- Describe how legislation, policy and procedure protects from discrimination in the learning environment.
- Identify the key characteristics of different types of schools and the roles of governors and staff

- What you need: You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom.
