Gentle movement for people living with pain (yoga inspired)

Each week we’ll repeat a range of similar gentle movements, on the chair waking up and mobilising the feet and ankles, arms and hands, warm ups, rotations, and reaching up. I’ll work towards a few simple standing postures if you are able to do this. I’ll teach you how to ground, breathe, release and how our breath can help in movements. If you are able to, I may spend a little time on the floor, gently rolling, tilting knees, simple gentle twists and becoming aware of how the pelvis moves and tilts.

Course aim

The overall theme is learning to move in a gentle and supportive way for your body through sensing the ground, being aware of the breath and releasing into each position.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners
  • Before you can join this course you will need to talk to a member of staff and do an initial assessment to make sure the course is right for you. Please call the Student Support Team on 0300 303 3464

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Have an increased sense of how to ease into moving my body.
  • Generally start to manage moving a little more in my life.
  • Use some breath awareness exercises to reduce stress and help to focus myself.
  • Feel more confident to regularly move through a short sequence of stretches at home.
  • Understand how I can allow gravity to affect myself whilst resting, in order to let go, as well as to give myself time to rest.

Please bring a nonslip mat, water bottle, and a blanket In collaboration with PCN Outreach Team with patients from: Arch Healthcare, Ardingly Court Surgery, Broadway Surgery, Park Crescent Health Centre, Pavilion Surgery, Regency Surgery, St Peters Medical Centre and Wellsbourne Health Centre.
