Ptolemaic Egypt

Ref: C3747584

Two thousand years after the pyramids ancient Egyptian culture is still flourishing - but how has it changed? How does Egypt weather the storms of invasion from Nubia, Assyria, Persia and especially Macedonia? This course will focus on the later periods of ancient Egyptian history. We will briefly review the preceding periods of Egyptian history before starting our more detailed review with Alexander the Great and his conquest of Egypt. From here using a range of evidence we examine Ptolemaic Egypt, its rise and decline, culminating in the death of Cleopatra VII and Egypt's absorption into the Roman empire.
