Taster: Seasonal and Christmas Origami for Well-being

This short course will introduce the basics of using origami to encourage well-being via mindfulness. Students will find out how to interpret a selection of basic origami symbols and how these translate into different folds in a series of practical exercises. Seasonal and Christmas themed projects will include ideas for decorations, gift boxes and more. There will also be the opportunity to learn about a brief history and the reasons for this ancient paper craft.

Course aim

An introduction to the basics of origami with a seasonal and Christmas theme to encourage well-being via mindfulness.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify and interpret basic origami symbols
  • Use basic origami symbols to fold paper
  • Follow pictorial guidelines and practical demonstrations to create origami creations
  • Cut paper when required as per pictorial guidelines and practical demonstrations
  • Be mindful of the benefits of using patience and repeating steps where necessary

Please bring the following: printer / photocopy paper, origami paper (optional), scissors and / or a guillotine, bone folders (used for card making) and patience. Please note that The Range, Rymans and The Works usually sell reasonably priced origami paper.
