This interactive, enjoyable and stimulating Philosophy short course introduces learners to a variety of key philosophers throughout the ages, exploring and evaluating their influential theories. Criticisms of these theories will be considered, enabling you to form reasoned judgements about them. A range of branches of philosophy will be included (e.g. ethics and gender theory) and fundamental philosophical concepts and terms introduced.

To provide an introduction to a variety of key philosophers, discussing and assessing their influential theories.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
- No prior knowledge is required, but a good grasp of English is essential
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Explain one or more philosophical theories.
- Identify the main criticisms of one or more philosophical theories.
- Define one or more philosophical terms.
- Think critically about two issues arising from the content of the course.
What else do I need to know?
You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and a webcam so that you can use the WEA’s video learning platform, Zoom. You will also need a personal email address to join our digital learning platform, Canvas.
