Introduction to Counselling (East Surrey)

This course will provide an overview of what counselling is including the role of a counsellor. It will also address the skills required including active listening. Participants will learn how to set ground rules, maintain boundaries and confidentiality. There will be an opportunity to examine difficult situations within the counselling relationships and ways in which these may be managed. The course is suitable as a first step for anyone wishing to work in counselling.

Working in partnership with East Surrey college, this course is for people living in East Surrey (Tandridge, Banstead & Reigate, Mole Valley and Epsom and Ewell)

Course aim

This introductory course will explain what counselling is, the role of a counsellor and the skills required. It will focus on listening skills and how to approach challenging situations within the counselling relationship.

  • Identify the key skills of a counsellor.
