We will examine US elections since 2016 and discuss the social, political and economic dynamics underpinning them. This will include a study of the ‘culture wars’ in contemporary America, the education divide among its citizens and the impact of globalisation on the American working class.

Course aim

To analyse and understand the political and cultural phenomenon that is Trumpism

  • This course is for beginners and improvers
  • No, but a keen interest in the United States will make the course more rewarding

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand and discuss the factors driving contemporary politics in the US
  • Explain the concept and practice of Trumpism
