Britain was an important destination for American artists during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This course will explore the reasons for this: what drew the artists and what led them to stay? And we will consider the importance of their contribution to British art. Key figures to be discussed will be Benjamin West, John Singleton Copley, James McNeill Whistler and John Singer Sargent. Lunch included with fee.
