Life as we know it on earth would not be possible without water. This course will explore some of the special features of water that enable it to exist naturally in all three physical states, gas, liquid and solid, on our planet. The course will also look at global access to clean water; its importance to human health; the impact of human activity on the environmental balance; and discuss solutions for the better management of water.
Course aim
This short introduction to the physics and chemistry of water will cover the basics of water’s role in shaping life on earth and its importance to environmental and population stability.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- explain four key properties of water
- describe the global water cycle
- list three actions to protect and enhance water quality and availability
- discuss the importance of water to human health and the natural environment
What else do I need to know?
The course will be interactive with the opportunity to get involved in experiments and discussions but no specialist knowledge or equipment is required.
