This course includes information and activities on carrying out a survey of your garden, identifying the habitat types you already have, what habitats can you create in your garden to attract biodiversity, how to create some of the habitats you identify and an overview of the species you may attract. We will focus on the design of the garden to not only be good for biodiversity but also to look good and function as a garden whether you live alone or have a family. The course will be delivered using video, activities, discussion and question/answer sessions.
Course aim
This course will enable you to create a simple design for a wildlife garden taking into account the needs of the various species you are aiming to attract.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Carry out a basic survey of my garden identifying the main habitat types present and any areas that are already good for wildlife
- Create a basic plan of your garden that includes features and habitat you intend to develop
- Understand why planting is important and the types of plant that are suitable for the different habitat areas in your garden
- List the essential attributes of any area or feature you intend to create for attracting wildlife
- Understand the role of British gardens in the maintenance of some plant and wildlife species
