Day School: Van Gogh and Nature

Ref: C3746845

In a letter sent from London in 1874 Vincent van Gogh wrote: “Always continue walking a lot and loving nature, for that’s the real way to learn to understand art better and better. Painters understand nature and love it, and teach us to see.” As Tate Britain will explore the web of cross-influences between van Gogh and British arts and culture, we will look at the central role and place given to the natural world in his paintings. Flowers, setting suns, fields and cypresses depicted with the brightest colours: we will investigate their meanings and effects
