Exploring a selection of four films produced and co-produced by BBC Films. Arising from the popular TV Play for Today & Screen Two strands, BBC Films (now BBC Film) was established in 1990 as an independent outlet for the company's cinematic productions and has produced ever popular, topical, thought provoking and unique films ever since. We (re)visit, examine the origins, common traits and varied themes through a small selection of examples from the BBC Films stable. Truly Madly Deeply (1990), Billy Elliot (2000), Philomena (2013), Sorry We Missed You (2019)

Course aim

A friendly and accessible exploration of a small selection of cinematic works produced and co-produced by BBC Films. Increasing knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the company's cinematic output and film in general.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers
  • No requirement to have attended any previous course.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a knowledge, fresh appreciation & understanding for BBC Films and the subject area in general.
