This practical, experimental course is based on drawing from observation and involves exploring media, approaches and ways of looking. You will apply a range of drawing techniques to develop your confidence to draw. We will complete both spontaneous visual responses and more developed pieces which capture light and depth in drawing in different ways.

Course aim
The course aims to introduce a range of experimental and analytical approaches for drawing, build a portfolio of images & increase your confidence in handling various drawing media.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Practically explore and create images using at least 4 different drawing media including charcoal, graphite, chalk, graded pencils, ink and erasers
- Work experimentally to explore selected formal elements of art including line, form, texture, contrast & negative space
- Draw from direct observation, using a range of sources and devices
- Discuss and reflect on the creative potential of different media and approaches to drawing
- Create a portfolio of work
What else do I need to know?
Materials will be provided. You may wish to bring a bag to take your drawings safely home.
