With food prices rising this taster class aims to teach those who wish to learn how to cook a range of festive dishes, using common or garden ingredients. The course will provide practical demonstrations of basic kitchen skills and cooking techniques. The recipes will be using sustainable, seasonal, and affordable ingredients reducing food miles, and helping to reduce the cost of the festive shop. Whether you are a novice, a budding Gordon Ramsey, or just wish to gain a little more knowledge of cooking affordable festive foods for your family, and friends this might just be the course for you.

Course aim

This practical cooking course will teach you basic kitchen skills to create affordable festive foods. You will be able to apply these new skills to help you cook affordable festive food at home for family and friends.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • I will be able to use at least 5 basic food preparation methods (e.g. mixing, beating, molding, creaming, straining, mashing, and draining).
  • I will know how to safely use at least 5 basic kitchen skills (e.g. peeling, chopping, slicing, shredding, whisking, and grating)
  • I will be able to use at least 5 basic cooking techniques (e.g. boiling, roasting, baking, blanch, and shock, braising, steaming, and slow cooking)
  • I will be able to cook a range of affordable festive foods on a budget.
  • I will be able to prepare festive ingredients to create a festive feast for family and friends.

Please bring an apron if you can, wear practical footwear, and something to tie back long hair if necessary. You may be asked to provide ingredients and a container to take food home in but support is available if required.

  • You declare that the address you provide is correct and that you will provide evidence of this and your eligibility to live and work in the UK
