This practical, experimental course is based on drawing from observation and involves exploring media, approaches and ways of looking. You will apply a range of drawing techniques to develop your confidence to draw, whether you have never drawn before or just wish to develop your skills.

Course aim

The course aims to introduce a range of experimental and analytical approaches for drawing, build a portfolio of images & increase your confidence in handling various drawing media.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Practically explore and create images using at least 4 different drawing media including charcoal, graphite, chalk, graded pencils, ink and erasers
  • Work experimentally to explore selected formal elements of art including line, form, texture & contrast
  • Draw from direct observation, using a range of sources and devices
  • Discuss and reflect on the creative potential of different media and approaches to drawing
