Pattern Cutting for Beginners - All About Darts

The short course will cover suppressing the dart, transferring the dart, and how to use the dart to change the silhouette. This course is interactive so you can follow the demonstrations and using half-scale patterns provided on canvas. All of the content has a handout and video tutorial for you to use in your own time. This course is aimed at students who have had some experience with patterns and would like to explore the subject more. You will be encouraged to make up the half-scale patterns from calico so you can realise the 2D pattern to 3D

Course aim

The aim of this course is to explore basic pattern cutting techniques for a woman's bodice, you will observe a range of demonstrations and you will work with the standard half-scale blocks provided.

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explore transferring and suppressing darts.
  • Explore style lines
  • Explore suppressing the dart
  • Explore using darts for fullness
