Build your confidence and skills in drawing by exploring line, tone and texture in a variety of 2D media. These will include pencil, fineliners, charcoal, chalk pastels, and inks. Through a series of exercises you will be taught the building blocks of drawing and learn techniques to help you observe your subject more effectively. You will be encouraged to explore both representational and expressive drawing, through small self directed projects.
Course aim
This course is part of the WEA’s Ukrainian Refugees Programme. Develop your drawing skills through fun, step by step exercises and small self directed projects.

- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Use line and tone to represent shape and develop your drawing style
What else do I need to know?
You will need a range of drawing materials: soft pencils (B, 2B, 4B) and eraser, black fineliner pen, willow charcoal, white pastel stick or chalk, Indian ink/writing ink and a small brush. Most tasks can be undertaken on A3 heavy cartridge paper, plus mid toned pastel paper.
