Day School - World Archaeology: Extraordinary Excavations

On discovering Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922, Howard Carter described seeing 'Wonderful things' within this site in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. As we head towards a century since this amazing archaeological discovery occurred, join this session to find out more about these intriguing excavations and others which have enhanced our understanding of the past.

Course aim

This course will introduce the excavations at KV62 - the tomb of Tutankhamun, and it will also discuss other archaeological excavations from locations around the world which have greatly enhanced our understanding of the past.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Be able to identify the location of at least two archaeological excavations and demonstrate awareness of why they are important
  • Name two methods that an archaeologist may use to record details of an archaeological excavation.
  • Name two processes that may occur following an archaeological excavation, when investigating artefacts.
  • Know three resources I can look at to find out more information linked to the subject of the day school.
