This course will enable you to create convincing animals portraits in a range of painting media. Gain thrilling new skills to capture a likeness in colour.

Course aim

This course will enable students to gain painting skills in order to develop convincing animal portraits, using a range of painting media.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Develop skills of measuring proportion for animal portraiture.
  • Demonstrate colour mixing skills to communicate light and shadow for animal skin and fur.
  • Show skills with chalk pastels, watercolour and acrylic for animal portraiture

What else do I need to know?

Please bring some pencils (HB, 2B,) eraser, and chalk pastels which will include white plus fixative which can be hairspray. Please also bring a small set of watercolours and acrylic paint, plus soft and bristle brushes. You will be using A3 size heavy cartridge drawing paper, coloured pastel paper.
