This course will introduce students to the potential of heat tools for textile work. They will learn how equipment such as an iron, heat gun or soldering iron can be used to burn, layer, distort and shape a range of materials including plastic shopping bags, fabrics and Tyvek for adding texture to work or creating 3d pieces.

To introduce students to the use of heat tools and their uses in textile work
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Use an iron, heat gun or soldering iron to distort or distress a range of materials
- Repurpose plastic such as shopping bags for use in textile work
- Know what Tyvek is and how to use it to make beads
- Know what materials can be altered by the use of heat
- Know how to use heat tools safely when distressing, distorting or burning fabrics
