This session will tell the fictionalised story of Sarah Simpson, a real life character from 19th century Sheffield and how she married a slave owner in Atlanta, Georgia. The story is told in several different voices in poetic monologues. The poems will be read and the writing process will be explained and analysed..

To tell a fictionalised story of a real life woman character whose life started in 19th century Sheffield and how she married a slave owner in Atlanta, Georgia. The question of truth and lies in fiction in writing will also be discusssed.

- understand some of the history of women's lives in 19th century Sheffield and Georgia.
- understand how truth and lies can combine in fiction and biography
