This is a practical course in which we will work together to cultivate some garden land, raised beds or even large potting containers to grow vegetables. We will learn about: Preparing the land or soil before planting. Choose what vegetables we wish to grow and what time of the year to plant and sow use a calendar for this. Plant and tend to vegetables. Mulching and composting. Extra maintenance and care when growing vegetables indoors or outside. This course is held at Keyham Green Places, Plymouth, PL2 2DT where the activities and demonstrations will take place.
Course aim
Learn to cultivate some land or micro allotments to grow vegetables.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Learn to prepare land or soil for growing vegetables.
- Understand how to maintain vegetables you are growing.
- Identify different vegetables.
- Be able to name at least 3 stages of vegetable growth.
What else do I need to know?
Ideally have a small garden or space to plant vegetables - even a 250g popcorn container indoors if you don't have garden space to grow the vegetables! Bring a notepad and pen. Please wear old clothes and boots for gardening with a coat or warm jumper as most sessions will be out doors.
