Exploring Negative Space Embroidery

During this course we will be exploring negative space embroidery and exactly what it means. This is a really fun and exploratory course where student with an improvers experience of embroidery can use stitching in a creative way. Over the six sessions we will be using a word and the embroidery will take place around the edge of the word leaving an empty (negative) space or outline of embroidery around the word.

Course aim

On this course you will be making a small sample of negative space embroidery. We will be exploring what negative space embroidery means and how to make a small design.

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • An understanding of what negative space embroidery is.
  • A small embroidery sampler with a negative space embroidery design on it.
  • An understanding of using traditional crafts in new ways.
