This talk covers some of the plants we have probably come across in the past that have had a major economic impact on the world, some that we may have forgotten about and some we may not have known that tried hard but didn’t really succeed. The talk includes; A reminder of plants that have been very influential in our history including some that have changed our everyday lives and continue to do so, key plants which we owe medicinal advances to, lesser known plants influencing both our health and sporting prowess and plants which tried to change our lives but never quite succeeded.

Course aim

This session reviews some of the plants that have influenced us over time –some plants which have modified our everyday life, some that are less well known and some that have tried very hard but haven’t been quite as successful.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify one or more plants that really helped change the world.
  • Recognise at least one of he plants that have had a significant medical impact.
  • Describe one or more plants that have made our lives more enjoyable.

Having a notebook to make notes from the talk and group discussions would be useful and there will be opportunities to share any additional knowledge you have about these or other plants.
