The Mayflower - Stories Behind the Voyage

Have you ever wondered why the Pilgrim Fathers made such a dangerous voyage to what was then an unknown land. What motivated them? Who were they? What did they have to endure to get to their "Promised Land"? This free taster session will give you a glimpse into the human side of the epic journey - put names to some of the Pilgrim Fathers - explore the conditions they had to endure during and once they reached the New World and the impact their settlement had.

Course aim

This taster session will give you an insight into the people behind the historic events - bringing to life their stories and motivations behind making such a momentous journey to a New World.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • know a little about the key figures amongst the passengers onboard the Mayflower
  • discuss the reasons why the Pilgrim Fathers wished to leave England
  • explore the harsh conditions endured both on the voyage and settling in a new land
