If you are interested in Spain and its culture, and would like to know more about how it changed in the last century, this will be a must do for you. The 50s and 60s were an important time in the history of the country, still not quite recovered from the civil war and affected by the changes going on in the outside world. We will have a look at some popular movies of the times that showed the social and political issues of the times. You will learn about the Spanish black humour which can be difficult to translate, but conveys a lot of what the culture is made of.
Course aim
Learn about the life and culture of normal people in 50s and 60s Spain through its movies and how they represented important issues for the Spaniards of the time.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No previous experience is necessary. The course will be delivered in English and learners just need to have an interest in old movies and Spanish culture.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- talk about at least one movie form this Spanish period and explain its different aspects
- explain to others at least two aspects of Spanish culture that might have been influenced by the 50s and 60s
What else do I need to know?
There will be quite a bit of screen sharing, so ideally connecting from a computer or a device with a big screen would be best.
