Fungi play a critical role in the life cycle of many plants; they play an important role in the ecology of many habitats in the British Isles. This course will act as an introduction to the fungi kingdom, their uses to humans including their use as food and medicines. The course will introduce you to some of the most common species found in woodlands and grasslands.

Course aim

Many people are fascinated by the fungi they see in their local woodlands and grasslands. This course will be an introduction to their ecology and identification.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Tell the difference from a mushroom and a toadstool
  • Name three groups of woodland fungi
  • Name two types of grassland fungi
