Autism & Employability for Professionals, Parents & Carers

Ref: C3532958

This year (2021) the government introduced the National Strategy for Autistic Children, Young People and Adults (2021-2026). The strategy outlines a five year plan to make changes across six areas that would have a 'significant impact on autistic people's lives'. This course will focus on two of these areas: to improve understanding and acceptance of autism within society, and to support more autistic people into employment. Over the six weeks of the course, we will explore our understanding of autism, move on to discuss the wider concept of neurodiversity, focus on some of the specific issues that present barriers to employment for autistic people, look at approaches and support that may be helpful for autistic individuals and/or could be adopted within a workplace, examine some media representations of autism and discuss how these may affect attitudes and expectations and finally, review our understanding of autism and employability.
