Christmas Lecture - The Christian Saints in art

Ref: C3532943

This lecture is part of our Christmas events. The subject specialist will deliver the lecture, with a limited time at the end for questions. Do you know why St Francis of Assisi or St Lucy are associated with Christmas? You'll find out in this talk, in which we will meet some of the many Christian Saints, including those who, sometimes surprisingly, are associated with Christmas, including St Nicholas of course! We will look at paintings of them, hear their stories, and learn about their symbols so you can recognise the next time you visit an art gallery.

Course aim

This talk will provide an introduction to the stories and symbols of Saints, including those associated with Christmas, with the aim of being able to identify saints in paintings and sculptures.
