This is a Music History Course with a special interest in Women's role and creativity over the centuries. We will look at both the portrayal of the feminine by men throughout History and the actual contribution of the women they were portraying in order to discover the truth of female creativity and the gifts it has to offer. We will explore both Western and Global female influencers. Let's redress the imbalance of female roles in the History Books and discover a hidden world of rich artistry and thought that deserves to be accessed by all.

Course aim

A course that charts the role of women in the History of Music to balance the history books and enrich your Musical listening.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • familiar with female composers in our Western History
  • understand the portrayal of women by men in Music
  • familiar with Global aspects of female contribution towards Music
