They say "You are what you eat" This has been true for centuries and this course intends to take a look into the kitchens, larders and dining rooms of our forebears, from the Romans to the modern day. We will look at ingredients, cooking methods and eating styles through seven period of British history. There will be some amazing facts for your next dinner party and some recipes adapted for the modern cook to try in your own kitchens.
Course aim
This course will provide an insight into the everyday lives of British people through their food. The course will look at cooking and eating through various periods and will be supported by recipes for you to try at home.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
- If you have enjoyed my other courses on cooking in the seventeenth century and the history of ice cream you will enjoy this one.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Have an understanding of how social history reflects each period of time
- Have a clear insight into how the food of each time has left it's legacy on our own modern diets
- try out some historic recipes at home
- look at how each age is connected together by it's eating habits
