Sewing at WHIST will provide you with basic sewing techniques, safe use of the sewing machine and an understanding of working from a commercial pattern with a view to making simple items of clothing/soft furnishings or altering existing ones. This course will take you through cutting the correct size pattern, laying the pattern onto the fabric, assembling garment pieces together, sewing a garment. The course will also show you how to alter existing garments.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Have an understanding of how to follow the instructions on a commercial clothing pattern
- Lay the pattern onto the fabric correctly
- Build a knowledge of how to sew or alter a basic garment
- Put in a zip and make a button hole
- Use the sewing machine safely
What else do I need to know?
Please bring with you either an item of clothing you wish to alter or a simple pattern with your chosen fabric and matching thread. If you have them ,please bring your tape measure, scissors and pins.
