In this online course, you will learn the basics of figure drawing through teacher-led exercises; proportion of male and female figures, posture, character and clothing.This course will give you the confidence to tackle figure drawing from life, as well as making up characters to include in your own paintings.
Course aim
To introduce students to figure drawing; proportion, posture, character and clothing, to enable them to apply these in real life figure/life drawing.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Recognise and use the basic proportions when drawing a generic male, female and child figure
- Apply my understanding of proportions to drawing figures in different positions and poses
- Draw and shade a variety of clothing on a figure
- Manipulate the basic proportions, poses and clothing of a figure to draw different characters
- Recognise how and why other artists have used figures in paintings
What else do I need to know?
You will need some basic art materials: cartridge paper or sketchbook, pencils, ruler, charcoal and eraser. It would also be helpful, but not essential to have access to a printer.
