Who were the Pitmen Painters? What kind of artwork did they produce? What is the legacy of their artwork for Northumberland? In this programme of lectures, we will explore the cultural context behind the work of the Pitmen Painters and investigate the continuing legacy of these artworks. Fully illustrated lectures with discussion. This course is held in a community centre and is for residents of Newcastle, Northumberland and North Tyneside only.

Course aim

An exploration of the artwork of the Pitmen Painters of Northumberland and an investigation into the cultural legacy of this body of work.
