This course will be delivered through an online Zoom classroom enabling you to study with full tutor support in the comfort of your own home. For more information and to book an appointment please email functionalskills@wea.org.uk In this course you will work on developing your maths skills in contexts such as health, shopping, work and leisure and home and garden. You will further develop your skills in using fractions, decimals, percentages and ratios, measure, and using and interpreting a range of statistical measures.
Course aim
This course will help you to enhance your skills and confidence in maths. You will be able to practise your maths skills through everyday tasks and progress onto a NCFE Level 2 Functional Skills Maths qualification.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for adults who already have Level 1 skills in Maths. Before you can join this course you will need to talk to a member of staff and do an initial assessment to make sure the course is right for you. Please email functionalskills@wea.org.uk
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Do calculations involving positive and negative numbers of any size, fractions and decimals
- Convert units of measurement, e.g. for DIY tasks, cooking and currency
- Solve problems involving percentages
- Describe properties and calculate angles, area and volume of shapes, including use of formulae
- Present statistical information, use and interpret a range of statistical measures including mean, median, mode, range, percentages and probability
What else do I need to know?
A laptop/pc (Windows 8 or higher / Mac OS X or higher), broadband internet connection, webcam, speakers, microphone and Google Chrome browser. You need a smart phone which can download apps (Android 4.1 or higher / IOS 8 or higher).
