On this course you will be introduced to simple tools and techniques designed to help you to stay in control of your everyday income and outgoings. You will learn about the concept of home economics to help you to feel more in control of your personal finances including loans and understanding interest and APR. This is a course for beginners.

Course aim

This course is designed to give a short introduction to budgeting for beginners - helping you manage your personal finances and money saving tips.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Calculate your income and outgoings more easily
  • Use and create a simple Excel spreadsheet
  • Understand and use simple online calculators
  • Understand simple interest calculations and APR costs

This course will be delivered online via Zoom video conferencing so learners will need internet access and a smartphone or ideally a tablet or laptop to get the most out of this course.

Budgeting for beginners


This course is funded by the Greater London Combined Authority but is also open to residents of other areas.

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2021
  • You declare that the address you provide is correct and that you will provide evidence of this and your eligibility to live and work in the UK
  • You have read and accept our standard terms and conditions
