Museum of London: 19th Century Visual Culture in London

Ref: C2423464

Nineteenth-century London was full of dazzling visual phenomena that occupied people’s eyes, from the 360-degree view of the panorama to the floating figures in the stereoscope. What prompted these new forms of visual culture to be created? And what was the impact of these visual entertainments? This session will look at a small selection of works of visual culture in the Museum of London, and explore how they changed the way people looked, as well as their perception about looking itself.
