The route from Trafalgar Square to the London Eye is dotted with sculptures and interesting buildings from all periods. We will look at art works and architectural features of the buildings, learning about the artists and designers and the political and historical significances. We will meet outside the Sainsbury Wing, National Gallery in Trafalgar Square WC2N 5DN at 11.00 am on Wed 11 May 2022. You will receive comprehensive notes in advance.
Course aim
The walking tour will last 90 minutes and provide an opportunity to enjoy art works and historical buildings. Starting from Trafalgar Square, the route will be Whitehall, Westminster Abbey, Parliament buildings, Westminster Bridge, South Bank.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Appreciate more the historical significance of art that can be seen in the streets
- Be able to identify more the art works and architectural features that can found in the streets of all major cities
- Be more aware of how the statues that appear in our streets came to be chosen.
- Plan future personal visits to historical areas of major cities,
