In this course students will focus on the importance of understanding children’s needs and what helps them to grow into well-balanced young people. It will help parents to explore various useful techniques that will enable them to build positive interactions with children. You will also learn why it is important to set rules and boundaries and to plan for when children do not co-operate. Students will also focus on the ways parents can interact and spend quality time with their children to provide a safe, loving and fun environment which encourages accountability and leads to positive outcomes for parents and children.

Course aim

This course helps parents to balance the demands of modern parenting. You will have opportunities to explore practical strategies to identify children’s needs and find useful techniques that create positive relationships with children.

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify a range of needs that help children to grow and develop
  • Identify a range of positive parenting tools and techniques and adopt a style that works for your family
  • Identify the importance of setting boundaries and routines and managing your child’s expectations
  • Develop a plan to ensure you can respond in a positive way when children do not co-operate
  • Identify ways in which parents can interact and spend quality time to encourage a safe and loving environment for their children.

This is an online course - you will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and webcam to use the video learning platform, Zoom. You will also need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas, to access all the course resources and record your progress.
